Who We Are

At PrivateRisk.org (https://privaterisk.org) we are a think tank, aggregator, and problem-solving engine. We were founded to help individuals tackle their risk management needs. If you are here, you are likely conducting research and looking for answers.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

In order to access the majority of our content, you must be registered for this site. Registration most often consists of gathering your name, email address, and location. This is to assure there are unique users and prevent malicious attacks or spamming of our site.

On occasion, you may access a section of the site which requests additional information. Most commonly this would be a questionnaire or other tool aimed at providing risk analysis. These tools are always optional and your data is not shared with any 3rd parties. By utilizing any of our tools your authorize us to collect and review your data.

Remember, personal data is not just created by your actions on our site. Personal data is also generated from technical processes such as commenting or your browser cookies. Again, any information we harvest will be given at your consent. PrivateRisk.org is not responsible for data collection or security for cookies or other data generated on your device.

Comments, Etc

When visitors leave comments on this site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent strings to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

On occasion, you may find a request to upload media, most specifically policy declarations, estate planning documents, or other legal contracts. This is always done voluntarily, at your request, and with your consent.

Contact forms

If completing a contact form, note that we keep submissions for a period of time necessary for customer service purposes. However we do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes, unless you are voluntary registering for a newsletter or email subscription.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. Analytics

We do not currently deploy any analytics program. Should this change in the future, our privacy and data collection policies will be updated accordingly.

Data Sharing

We do not share your data with any 3rd party unless by your specific request. Your request includes social media sharing such as but not limited to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook or the like, whether directly through these platforms or through your use of a 3rd party software platform, such as but not limited to Hootsuite, Bit.ly, etc.

Data Retention

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Other data is kept for 10 years unless purged for administrative purposes

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

For those using a partnership, data gathering, due diligence, or other data submission tools, you are providing your information willingly and for the purposes of said partnership or program. This data is not shared with affiliates, 3rd parties, or other entities unless by your specific, written request.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

We do not transfer data; however our data is currently cloud-hosted in a variety of locations. Note that visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your data

We do our best to safeguard your data by hosting our data in a cloud with redundancy. These servers are encrypted and we defer to our hosting provider for their security. We also run backend software to prevent intruders from altering, accessing, corrupting, or otherwise interacting with data on this site which does not belong to them.

Data Breach Procedures

In the event of a breach, our site will be taken off-line until such a time as the extent of the breach can be determined and any affected parties notified.

Third Party Data Receipt

We do not currently receive 3rd party data such as advertisements to our website. However, we may accept 3rd party data which is received from your IP address, such as using a password manager to facilitate your log-in. In such instanced we are not responsible for the security of your data transfer and you will defer to the privacy policy governing your local software/tool/platform.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We do not currently deploy AI script, automatic decision makers, bot-based underwriting or other profiling software. Should this change in the future, our privacy and data collection policies will be updated accordingly.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

As of this time there are no specific regulatory requirements levied upon us. However, we intend to comply with U.S. regulatory requirements surrounding the financial services industry, so long as those requirements are feasible and reasonable in the scope of our operation.
